How to refresh a stale link preview on each service

OGP

Checked on 5 October 2026, from official documentation and published observations. Items without official documentation are marked as observed.

What is happening

When a link is shared, each service reads the page title, description and image once and stores them. Until that stored copy is refreshed, the old content keeps showing even after you fix the page. How long it is kept, and how to refresh it, differs by service.

Refreshing, service by service

Service How long it is kept How to refresh Already posted
Facebook Officially re-fetched about every 24 hours; observed to persist for about 30 days Enter the URL in the Sharing Debugger and press “Scrape Again” (Facebook login required) Unverified
X About 7 days (official documentation as of 2023) The official validator was removed in August 2022. Append something like ?v=2 to make a new URL Does not change
LinkedIn About 7 days (observed) Enter the URL in the Post Inspector to re-fetch (login required) Does not change; new posts pick up the update
LINE Not published. Observed: text changes in about 2 days, image changes in about 2 weeks The official tool (Page Poker) has been discontinued. Changing the URL is the reliable way Does not change
Slack About 30 minutes (official), shared across all workspaces Wait 30 minutes or change the URL. The same link posted again in the same conversation within an hour does not unfurl Post again
Discord 30 minutes to a few hours (observed) Append something to the URL. There is no official tool Post again
iMessage Stored per sender device; duration unknown Send in a new conversation, from another device, or with a changed URL Does not change
Threads Unknown No official method. Whether Facebook’s Sharing Debugger applies is unverified Unknown
Bluesky The card content is written into the post itself Cannot be refreshed after posting; post again Does not change

When only the image was replaced

Sometimes the title and description update but the image stays old. Facebook, Slack and Discord store images separately, keyed by URL. If the image URL is unchanged, the old image keeps being used. Renaming the image file (for example ogp-v2.jpg) switches it reliably.

Checking what the page currently has

The OGP Checker fetches the page fresh every time. If the new content shows there, the page side is done. If a service still shows the old preview, refresh it with the methods above.
